QU TO MISS REST OF THE SEASON
Friday December 8th, 2006
Adelaide United FC's marquee player and striker Shengqing Qu is the next Adelaide United player to be ruled out for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season. Coach John Kosmina announced today that Qu will undergo surgery on his ankle, and that he is certain to miss the rest of the season.
The former Chinese International has an injury to one of the tendons in his right foot which will require surgery according to club doctor James Illic.
"Qu will be out for the rest of the season. We've tried to get him right for the last six weeks and he's just not responding. He'll get some surgery and will be out for the rest of the Hyundai A-League season at least, if not longer," Kosmina said.
The former Chinese international has been troubled by a recurring ankle problem and has not played since Round 10 against the Newcastle Jets. The injury has hampered Qu's form this season, after dominating the Hyundai A-League in its inaugural year. Qu has only made seven appearances for one goal this season.
Qu's absence follows the announcement earlier in the week that Under 20 striker Dez Girladi's will also miss the rest of the Hyundai A-League season with a foot/ankle injury.
Kosmina and the club are yet to make a decision on who will replace Qu. "We'll wait and see, it will be a couple of weeks before anything is decided," Kosmina said.
The loss of Qu will be a blow for Adelaide United, with Romario only here for another two games and Giraldi also out, the likes of Fernando, Carl Veart and Nathan Burns will need to continue to lead United's attack.
